ESTEBAN APRAEZ | FOUNDER & CEO

Esteban Apraez is the Founder & CEO of Papaya – the global storytelling company connecting brands with fans. Papaya is based between Berlin and London working with clients across Sports (DFL/Bundesliga, bwin) and Lifestyle (Havaianas, Converse).

Prior to launching Papaya, Esteban served as the Senior Director of ESPN International where he created & oversaw the International Marketing Solutions (“IMS”) group -- the division (in-house agency) inside of ESPN charged with delivering global marketing solutions to the world’s biggest advertisers across 200 countries and 47 owned properties. During his tenure he spearheaded the group’s expansion, managing teams in NY, London, Sao Paulo & Sydney, in addition to being directly responsible for driving over $40 million of new business that helped propel the International division to achieve its best performance ever for three consecutive years.

Esteban is also the creator & executive producer of the documentary series Capitales del Futbol Presentado por MasterCard, ESPN International’s most profitable and most watched original content series ever with over 35 million viewers across Latin America & the US. The series is a partnership with Academy Award® winning director Juan Jose Campenalla’s 100 Bares productions and MasterCard Worldwide.

Extending the format into Basketball, Esteban also created an innovative production and marketing partnership with Turkish Airlines and Euroleague Basketball, culminating in Basketball Capitals Presented by Turkish Airlines – a TV mini-series and accompanying marketing platform that premiered across 130 million TV households in Europe, Middle East & Africa, and tens of thousands of in-flight screens, immediately becoming a critical and audience hit.

The latter, in addition to his work for the likes of Samsung, KIA, FedEx, Budweiser, and P&G to name just a few, has earned him awards and accolades including three Clios®, the The PromaxBDA Grand Prix Award, Grand Prix for Innovation by the Internationalist, distinctions from The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts, as well as being recognized by industry bible Adweek for developing the Best Media Plan of 2012.

Prior to building the leading branded content group in sports media, Esteban helped launch the ESPN Deportes network, assisting in securing distribution agreements with Comcast and Time Warner, all the while creating the network’s first integrated marketing department.

Before joining ESPN, Esteban’s career spanned internet startups, music majors and indies, advertising and broadcast television. He helped launch the largest worldwide music portal in Spanish & Portuguese, won multiple Grammy® Awards as founding member of a joint venture between Arista & BMG Latin, served as manager of worldwide marketing for the Bertelsmann Music Group (now Sony Music), finally co-founding an indie label distributed by Sony Music. During his brief career in advertising he helped secure and managed the Johnny Walker® (Diageo) business for the largest multicultural advertising agency at the time.

Esteban holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University. He’s a frequent speaker at conferences (TV & Film Finance Forum, SXSW, LAMC, MIDEM, Portada) whose work has received coverage and recognition from the likes of The New York Times, The Atlantic, Billboard Magazine, Sports Business Journal, AdAge, Adweek, The Miami New Times and more.

He resides with his wife and daughter in Berlin, Germany.

MARCEL ENGH | PARTNER & CHIEF STRATEGY OFFICER

Marcel has an eighteen year track record in International Media & Marketing and Business Development with companies likes EMI North America, BMG International and Bertelsmann North America. In 2005, in his role as Vice President of Sony Music Europe, Marcel successfully launched a Brand & Talent Agency business (the first of its kind in the region) with $27m turn over in its first two years.

In 2010, he started Exploding Plastic a Cultural Branding and Talent agency with offices in London and Berlin and clients such as Coca-Cola, Samsung and Converse to name just a few.

In 2014 he joined forces with Papaya becoming a Partner and the companies Chief Strategy Officer
